Hey there,
I have an i5 system running Windows 7 64bit.
Over the last few weeks, my programs have been freezing (error: not responding), bootup takes 5 min or so, and the whole system seems to hang - sometimes for minutes at a time... the event log says the problem is Standby Performance Monitoring, Boot Performance Monitoring, and Shutdown Performance Monitoring, all with 'critical', 'warning' or 'error' signs. The event ID's are 100, 101, 300, 302.

Does anyone know what might be happening? It's taken me 15 minutes to write this with all the freezing and waiting for the computer to 'catchup'...it's driving me insane!!

I hope someone can help me :D

Hi Kittenkat :D
You need to provide some information about your computer, this includes is it
a laptop or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP
and if it is provide the model name or series number, motherboard and any
add on card details would also help others to help you better.
Check the system for malware/virus infections using the guide at the link below
http://www.geekstogo...cleaning-guide/
If your system does have an infection that you cannot resolve yourself you will
need to start a new thread on the malware forum, provide them with a link to here
so that they can check any steps you may have already taken.
If you get the all clear from the malware forum but the issue is not resolved
come back to this thread and we can look at other possible causes.
Finally how old is the computer, is it covered by a warranty? If it is and it is
not malware return the computer to the place of purchase.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry I forgot to add the extra info!

It's a custom built desktop, still under warranty.
cpu: Intel i5 750, 2.67GHz
mb: Asus P7P55-LX
ram: 4GB Kingston DDR3
graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 (not sure which model..they replaced the original one due to problems)
os: win7 64bit

I'm going through the Malware steps now - though it doesn't mention being compatible with Win7 - I'll try it anyway :D

Thanks again,

Hi - just a quick update...I have run all the malware and virus scanners etc and the system is all clear..

I've rung the computer shop and they say it might be the RAM or the hard drive causing issues, so I'm taking it in today.

Thanks for the help - your site is wonderful. :D
