I'm trying to attached a new printer to my laptop via usb. I've installed the drivers that came with the printer. I never got to try it out. Now as soon as I connect the usb the laptop shuts down and won't restart for another 3 minutes or so. The printer is connected to external power. Also connected to the laptop via usb is a wireless mouse. What should I do? The laptop has Windows Vista installed.

What happens if you shutdown and power off the notebook and printer. Connect the printer, power on the printer, then power on and boot the notebook?

Also, if the notebook is running off the charger, make sure the notebook and printer are powered from the same wall outlet - just to ensure there is no difference in ground (Earth) potentials.
