The lock means you are at a secure site. Try this - with all browser windows closed, Go to Start->Run and copy and paste each of the following, hitting ok after each:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Reboot, then try to access the sites that were giving you problems again.

Hey jilltchr.
Is there an option where you can login with out being secure. I know yahoo! mail allows for that. Also, do you have trouble connecting to other secure websites?
ditto

Well, that didn't seem to do anything when I ran those prompts. Thanks for helping me with this... is there anything else you could suggest?

What grade of encryption does your IE have? To find out:
1. In IE, choose "Help", then "About"
2. Tell me what it says after "Cipher Strength:" (second line)
Also, make sure these are checked:
1. In IE, click on "Tools"
2. Select menu item "Internet Options"
3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
4. Scroll down to the "Security" section
5. Make sure SSL 2.0 and 3.0 are checked

Thanks for getting back to me... I followed your instructions. When I pull up IE About.... The screen reads:
version:
cipher strengh:
and Product ID:
HOWEVER... all three are blank. No version, strength or ID!
I did go to tools, Internet Options, and Security settings. Both SSL settings, 2.0 and 3.0 are checked.
any other suggestions?

Looks like you've lost your encryption to view secure sites. You need to repair Internet Explorer:

I reccomend the first method. Only use the second method if the first one didn't work after a fresh restart.
