Hello,
I am having some problems with my DVD recorder drive. The system detects the drive, but always says "insert disk" or "no disk available". This has led me to believe that this a problem with the laser on my drive- which should not be overly dirty as I only purchased a few months ago. However, the drive will not read my cleaner disk- therefore I cannot fix this problem. Is there any way to clean the laser manually, or any other possible remedy?

Thanks

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the green light flashes constantly when there is a CD in the drive.

3 suggestions:

1. look at device manager for red or yellow flags
2. remove the dvd from device manager, reboot, let xp reinstall it
3. get a new dvd recorder

opinion - if the cleaner disk fails, its probably bad hardware
