Hi
My Dell 9200 hangs on a black screen after the windows logo screen.
When I manually restarted, I got a message telling me windows did not fully shut down and the option to start in 'normal' (doesn't work) or 'safe' (does work)
I couldn't find Norton and right clicking on the C drive got me a message that RCing wouldn't work. So I used the 'run' command from the start menu, browsed to the C drive, and then scanned from there by right clicking. ;)
I found "TrojanFaveAV!gen28" and Norton says it was quarantined.
At some point, I saw a screen that -I think- asked if "sprtcmd" could connect to a DNI(?) server ...I just closed the screen.
It still wouldn't boot.
I followed the instructions to make and use the AVG reboot disk. I scanned and found 6 trojans which *I think* were renamed. I didn't write them down, but I think one had "A BMW" in it...

********************************Updates/edits:********************
I'll post updates and edits here until I get help from someone:
I don't have Dell disks and couldn't figure out how to download the diagnostics disk from their website.
On Thursday I ran another scan from the AVG disc and came up with "Trojan horse/classloader" -AVG renamed it

******************************************************************
Still won't boot :D

Thanks (really thanks!) for your help, and here are the OTLs as of wednesday ("Text" below, "Extras" in next post):

Hi,
I would love a reply, but I know this is all volunteer so if no one is able to help me, then I'll understand and I could look elsewhere. I'd really like to get this done with some help because I'd like to understand the process better and all that ...and also to stop having to use my wife's computer. :D

If no one can help now, I'll totally understand and no hard feelings, but could a moderator let me know either here or in a PM?

Thanks!
Greg

PS, I ran Malwarebytes and deleted some stuff, but that didn't fix the problem either...

Hi SwingDJ

Welcome to Geekstogo. My name is Salagubang and I'll be helping you with this problem.

I am still a trainee so all my posts will be checked by an Expert. It's your advantage that there are two people looking at your log but responses may be a little delayed so please be patient.

  • Please read all of my response through at least once before attempting to follow the procedures described. I would recommend printing them out, if you can, as you can check off each step as you complete it. If there's anything you don't understand or isn't totally clear, please come back to me for clarification.
  • Please do not attach any log files to your replies unless I specifically ask you. Instead please copy and paste so as to include the log in your reply. You can do this in separate posts if it's easier for you
  • English is not my first language, so please do not use slang or idioms, as this makes it difficult to understand for me.

Step One

Restart your computer with Automatic Restart on System Failure disabled
  • You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure" then hit enter
    .

  • If windows failed to boot, windows will not restart and will show a blue screen indicating the source of the error as shown in the example below

  • Copy the technical information (as shown in the above example enclosed in red boxes) and post it on your next response.

Step Two

Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter
.

Posted ImageOTL
  • Download a fresh copy of OTL and transfer it to the desktop of the ailing computer using your USB stick
  • Double click on the OTL icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • In the output section of OTL, ensure that "Standard" is selected.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

    netsvcs
    drivers32
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    userinit.exe
    winlogon.exe
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys

    nvata.sys

    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    /md5stop
    c:\windows\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan won't take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents, and paste them into your reply.

Step Three

GMER Rootkit Scanner
  • Posted Image GMER Rootkit Scanner - Download - Homepage
  • Download GMER
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe.
    Posted Image
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ...
  • IAT/EAT
  • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
  • Show All (don't miss this one)

NOTE - Not all of the tick boxes will be available if you are running a 64bit Operating System. You may also get an error message display on the screen when using a 64bit Operating System, this is normal, just click on OK and let it carry on.

Click the image to enlarge it
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt"
  • Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

**Caution**Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please copy and paste the report into your Post.

Hi Salagubang,
Thanks for your response. A friend of mine said he will look at my computer for me. If he can't fix it, I'll be back, but for now I'll give up my place for someone else who needs help.

Thanks for doing this and good luck with your training!

Peace,
Greg
