I don't really know anything about viruses or trojans, but I have tried all of the things recommended on this site, and I am still having issues with popups. Here is my hijachthis log. Please help.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Ok, I did what you said. I was unable to find VBouncer. I was unable to find an exact match for
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0777CEF5-7B33-380C-69B4-340090CCA132} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cdmagent\gvptjmbcdx.dll
but i did find a BHO that was exactly like this, but the number in the {} was different. I went ahead and deleted it, hope that's ok.

That file is still there. OK, do this in normal mode then:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. I still didn't find smlcert6.exe
I fixed the other three from the hijack this scan.
Before I did what you asked in this last post, I did another ewido scan and there were a lot of infections.
On a positive note, I haven't had any pop ups (yet) since I did this last set of instructions.
Let me know if I should do anything else.
Is the AVG antivirus good enough, or should I buy something?

For Ewido, those infections were all removed right? Just checking They should be removed by Ewido.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

when i go to the quarantine area of ewido and click on each file path and then click "remove finally," it lets me remove about three file paths and then the screen goes blank. i close down ewido, open it again and the list of file paths are back (i guess minus the ones i deleted). i've done this about four times. what's the deal with that? when ewido was running the scan it would prompt me that it found an infection and ask me if i wanted to do something with it (i can't remember if it was delete or fix) but there were only two choices and one choice was to do nothing. i chose to do the delete/fix choice. is this sufficient? or do i need to delete all the files in that quarantine log?

Hi Jennifer, if Ewido gave you an option to fix/delete those infected files, you should be ok. I just wanted to take a look at the log to make sure that it did actually remove it. The log will mention if it was cleaned or not.

You really don't need to empty out the qurantine, but you may if you wish. As long as you ran the scan and fixed/deleted what was found, you should be free of those infection.
