I've got an ACER Win95 computer. I have a monitor that isn't original to the desktop PC. Whenever I run a game (that requires that the .exe enter MS DOS first) or whenever my computer is starting up (which really isn't a problem for me but may help you to understand it better) the whole screen shifts to the right, the part of the screen that is cut off is then repeated on the left, so the majority of the screen can be seen but the left part on the right, a strip in the middle and the right part on the left. I can't fix this with the DISPLAY in the control panel. I don't know what the matter is. Thanks for any help you can provide. The monitor's type is "Digital" fyi. I've tried the safemode route. Didn't seem to work. Thanks.

The display settings in Control Panel have no effect except in Windows. I think what you need to do is use hardware controls, that is to say, the buttons or knobs on the monitor itself. There should be a buttons to alter the horizontal stretch and horizontal shift, and same for vertical. Sometimes a couple of buttons do several things by means of an on-screen menu so you may have to experiment a bit to find out what does what.

I've played around with all of the knobs. There are no buttons -- it doesn't have an onscreen menu (like my new comp) that I know of -- I've checked a couple of times. But I appreciate that. I mean the situation is fine until I open a couple apps that all seem to be MSDOS apps.

I've installed all of the latest drivers and I thought the problem might be a conflict with direct draw and so I installed the latest DirectX version for Win95, still, the problem persists. I mean the issue must be more basic I'm thinking because when I restart it does the shift thing on the starting up screen, so mightn't it be more than the video adapter? I don't know, any more suggestions?

Are there any further suggestions?
