I live in Mexico where the Epson TX400 is sold. It uses the same drivers, parts list, etc., and appears absolutely identical to the Epson NX400 sold in the States and the SX400 sold in Asia. I asked Epson if I could use NX400 cartridges I plan on purchasing on my next trip to the States in my TX400. They told me no, I have to use the incredibly expensive TX400 cartridges from Mexico.

Is this true? If it is, and I doubt it, is there any way around it?

TX400 takes the T0731-4 range.
NX400 takes T0691-4.

They are not the same cartridge and the SX400 takes different inks altogether from the two above, taking T0711-4. The fact the printers all look identical is misleading - they all look like that. Unfortunately the ink isn't interchangeable.
