Hi,

I stopped using my desktop after I purchased a laptop but I need a server machine for a couple of months for a Sharepoint project and as such I don't want to buy a new desktop if it's possible to upgrade my desktop.

Current Configuration:

Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM
RAM: Transcend 2GB DDR2-800
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.44 GHz

Will my motherboard support the new DDR3 memories?

Any sort of advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Something else to consider also.
If you are running a 32bit OS then you will only be able to utilize 3.5 gigs of memory at best. To use all 4 gigs you would need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS like
  • XP 64bit
  • Vista 64bit.
  • Highly doubtful you can go to Win 7 64bit

For Sharepoint 2010 I will have to install Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and according to Microsoft I think I can fulfill the minimum system requirements.

That would be good news so you can utilize all the memory then.
