My desktop crashes randomly while its on and crashes while booting xp unless i boot in safe mode first. If i restart after booting safe mode it boots normally but will still crash. I think its a driver issue but i have no idea how to go about fixing it for the specific drivers. I recently reinstalled windows and i have installed only a few programs. Any help would be nice.

EDIT: There are no heating issues or power issues.

Windows XP Home Edition SP2
AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Processor
Biostar NF4U AM2G motherboard.
2 1GB sticks of RAM
nvidia Geforce 9400 GT

You are saying that after a while, your computer will randomly crash. Are there any programs that are open in the background that could be triggering the crash?
Do you get a blue screen of death, or does your computer automatically restart? If it just restarts go here: http://www.tweakxp.c...ticle36976.aspx and disable auto-reboot.
Let me know what STOP code is shown on the blue screen.

Also, if you see other events in the Event Viewer ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 ) that occurred around the same time of the crash, post them here.

Btw, when you boot into safe mode, the computer never crashes? Or does it still?

It has yet to crash while in safe mode. Yes, it randomly crashes while booted normally. There are no programs running the background that could cause the crash. I have already disabled auto-reboot. I see a blue screen rarely but the stop codes i have seen are 8E, D1, and 50. D1 mentioned netevent.dll.

i understand that aavmker4, aswsp, aswtdi of these are because of avast. im uninstalling it again and im also uninstalling the AMDK8 driver since i dont think its needed. hopefully it helps.

Here are the events that happened at the same time as the above.

Good, let me know if it alleviates the problem.

Since I'm running linux, and cannot read minidumps, go here: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
Post the WhoCrashed report in your next post.

You might also want to go here: https://sites.google...st-instructions
And run memtest on one stick of RAM at a time to make sure that isn't your problem. If memtest reports any error the stick is probably faulty/

Uninstalling Amdk8 and Avast did not help. My RAM is fine. Minidumps are enabled but one doesnt get generated when i crash(i dont know how to fix this). Seems the the crashes are getting more frequent but my computer is perfectly fine in safe mode.

EDIT: i was missing the .net framework and debugging tool. installing now and hopefully that fixes the minidump problem.

When you have another crash, check if the minidump is present, and then run WhoCrashed.
You might want to look here: http://www.cakewalk....er/minidump.asp to confirm that minidumps are enables.
