CD Disc CRC error when trying to restore Peahtree Accounting Software

My wife uses Peachtree Complete Accounting for a Client. When she backs up her data on their Windows XP Dell PC then tries to restore on her Toshiba Windows 7 Laptop it causes the program to freeze. When I tried to simply copy the file I am getting a CRC Error. Is it possible that writing to a CD on XP is incompatible with Windows 7. Not using any CD writer program.

A CRC error is usually caused because the file cannot be read. It may be caused by a bad disk or a defective drive...

A flash or pen drive may be a better solution.
