Not paranoid, not paranormal...so what is it?

I have an ASUS G73 running windows 7. Comes standard with webcam with adjacent side lite indicator which lights when web cam is in use. For no apparent reason, this light comes on and possibly my web cam also. Are they are active and or transmitting data at this point? . This is a random condition and nothing I can conceive I've done to cause this situation. I have odd quirks like telephony running which I cant stop or get rid of. Am I being watched by a keylogger of some sort. Seems those programs for computers and cell phones are a dime for a dozen these days.
