Can't get rid of these pop-ups! HELP! [RESOLVED]

Hi,
I keep getting random pop-ups whenever I open my browser. Tried to track down where they are coming from, but no such luck. In addtion, once I go on a website for a few minutes and click any links, the computer suddenly starts running REALLY slow, like it takes 45 seconds to load a page (I have DSL) and finally when I'm on a site, there will be GREEN "links" that if I click on them the links take me to another advertiser page, all random. Hi redy,

Let's get this party started.

Please print out these instructions to make it easy to follow and to have access to them when you have to reboot your pc. Please read through them prior to commencing to do anything and if there is anything that you are unsure of, or do not understand, please contact me first for assistance.

I would like you to carry out the following free on-line virus scan and follow their instructions on removal of anything that it may find.

Panda Active Scan

Download the following program.

Cleanup. install it but do not run it yet.

Set PC to show hidden files (Click link below if you do not know how

Show hidden files

Reboot into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key whilst PC starts up.

Open up HJT and rescan and Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
O2 - BHO: ohb Class - {9ADE0443-2AB2-4B23-A3F8-AC520773DE12} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsh49.dll

Ensure no windows are open apart from HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Using Windows Explorer locate and delete the following files/folders.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsh49.dll

Now use the Cleanup program to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Reboot normally and rescan with HJT and post the log in this thread

Hi Again,

Reboot into SAFE MODE again (tap F8 key, whilst pc boots up)
Rescan with HJT and check the following entry;

O2 - BHO: VBRunDLL Class - {197B8CA4-E215-46DD-8F33-E0544A80E5C4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vbrundll.dll

Ensure no windows open except HJT and Click Fix Checked.

Using windows explorer, locate the following file and delete it.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vbrundll.dll.

Reboot PC normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back

Nothing unusual, it sometimes takes a few runs to get things out.

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

ewido

Reboot into SAFE MODE again,

Rescan with HJT and check the following

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Now run Ewido.
click on the Scanner button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book as this may take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Reboot PC normally,

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, so we can sort out any remnants

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
