Convert MP3s to another format

Is there a way to convert an mp3 to an audio file that will play in a traditional CD player? I found an application to do that, but it made the .wav file so big I couldn't get it on an audio cd. I want to convert mp3 lectures to a file size I can put on a cd to listen to in my car. Thanks!
