Hello,

This is my first post.

My computer (VAIO, 2.4GB P4) runs fine until I open the D: drive which I use for processing video.
It has always worked fine, then suddenly one morning the computer goes to 100% upon opening, making work on the files in D: impossible.

Task Manager shows explorer.exe running at 99% continuously.

This AM it seemed to work for a moment, but then went back to 100% making work on video files impossible, and slowing the entire computer down no matter what the app.

When I close D:, it remains at 100% for a few minutes, then returns to normal at about 7% +/- .

So long as D: is not accessed, all is ok.

Help ?

start > run
cmd
enter

type
chkdsk d: /r
enter

agree to check at next boot

reboot when you have some time,

Sounds like a bad block, perhaps.

I went ahead and did the Chkdisc, and there was a bad sector which was repaired.

This did not fix the problem, however.

Whenever D: is accessed, explorer.exe shoots to the high 90%s sharing only with task Mgr if I have that open.

My D: drive is critical to our family business, and until it is "fixed" we are out of business, with angry clients.

Suggestions?

Thanks very much !
