After a quick look I see one file that looks dangerous, so that should be taken care of, but it is also possible your norton security software is resetting your home page

why do you have msconfig loading ?

what preceded this happening?

in addition to the problem I see, this setting is interesting

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

I believe this is called when you have choosen selective startup in msconfig....did you do so?

The odd thing is that the file is not normally capitalized like that, so that setting is making me scratch me head.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lrksyxp] c:\windows\system32\kclmzwz.exe

When you get a clean bill of health from one of our malware experts, and if the problem is still occuring, please return to this thread.

I have done a scan in safe mode and went into msconfig - safe mode start up.
to find out if anything was there but came up with nothing so i am not sure, my brother told me to do this as if i had a virus it may be undetected, and i had system restore off at the same time.
he doesnt know what causes the msn homepage to keep coming up

if you unchecked selected start up, it would not be there.

I was not aware you had a second thread until moments ago when a malware person PMd me.

You have a couple problems that MAY be at the root of this....your thread is in the queue and they will get to it. If the problem persists after they help you clean the log, please resturn here and I will get you squared away--as it is, we need to take care of the malware infection first.

I closed the other thread because the log was clean, it was the third thread and he bumped it.

Find C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and rename it to hosts.bak
Close all IE windows and open one new one.
Let us know where it goes.

This is another option to look into:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

Not always bad, but can be abused.

But my guess is that you set AdWatch to Automatic.

Hi there

I have removed adwatch and still have adaware running, I have changed the name as you said ie host.bak , have run ie and my homepage is now altavista, when I put adwatch back on it changes back to msn why is this as I feel very silly asking you lot a stupid question :tazz:

Many thanks for all your time

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it.
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically.

Set it to Active and read the prompts carefully before allowing and denying permission.
It's not silly. It happened to a lot of other people.

Get a good hosts file here: http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.htm
and consider it a day well spent. :tazz:
