windows update not working. Missind .dll files

It wants a CD and will not accept the ones I have. I think I am hooped. Pretty sure I will have do a back up - format - install.
I guess it is the excuse I need to buy that external tera-drive we've wanted for awhile. LOL. Big sigh...
