Is this a laptop or desktop?
Check speaker connection to back of system
Check volume control in windows by doing the following:
Go to Start and The Run
Type in sndvol32.exe and press Enter
Make sure Master Volume is not muted and turned up
Check Cd Player volume is not muted and turned up

OK it seems to me that the sound device has apparently failed on your system.
U take it this is a custom built system or is it a name brand system?
Did you receive a disk marked drivers with your system?

Motherboard Info:

Download SIW from HERE and get the Standalone English version
It will install itself and when finished

Then Click on SIW Icon to run program
On the left side click on the Motherboard directory and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply
On the left side click on the PCI directory and then on the rightcopy and paste the line that says Audio Device

This is your Audio Device and Driver

Device 24C5h 801DB/DBL AC'97 Audio Controller (ICH4/ICH4-L B0 step)

Of course I'm still not seeing a motherboard id yet so lets try another program.

Please download CPUz from my signature below

[1:] Save it to your desktop.
[2:] Click on the icon it creates and let it run
[3:] I need the following information from it.
[4:] First click on the Mainboard tab at the top of the window and give me Manufacturer and Model number it shows

Please include in your next reply

Go HERE and run the Intel Driver Update Utility. That should find the correct driver for your audio then.

It should not take this long. Start it over because something has interfered with the install.
