Hi, I recently had that virus that gives you the black 'warning' background and tries to get you to download some anti-spyware software. I thought I had got rid of this.

But today when I turned on my computer, I get this blue error screen saying something about 'Trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c'. I tried all the different suggestions, on the 'read this before posting a Hijack logfile' thread and things seem to have calmed down a little bit.

Anyway can you check that I am free, and tell me if there is anything i need to do before hand. I almost downloaded SP2 just before reading this forum. Lucky I didn't.

Here is my logfile from Hijack This:

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please RIGHT-CLICK: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT*CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

I need you to copy all of the Killbox file paths below and paste them into Notepad.

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\bsw.exe
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\system32\hhk.dll

C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Make sure you can view hidden files.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following, if found, (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

Close all programs and all windows, leaving only HijackThis running. Please disconnect from the internet. Place a check narj against each of the following, making sure you get each one and not any others by mistake:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Is this what you're seeing?

double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\Program Files\Windows ServeAd
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\txfdb32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\srpcsrv32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\spoolsrv32.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

post a new log.

Open task manager (ctrl>>alt>>del) and stop these processes if present:

winservad.exe
winservsuit.exe

Go to
the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If you find the value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\windows servead, delete it and reboot the machine immediately.

Unregister

these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot:

winatserv.dll

Remove

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\windows servead
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\windows servead
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\windows servead

Remove
these files (if present) with Windows Explorer

winatserv.dll
winservad.exe
winservsuit.exe

Remove

these directories (if present) with Windows Explorer:

programfilesdir+\windows servead

2. To remove SaveNow

1. Click Start > Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Click SaveUninst.exe.
