Yesterday, suddenly Facebook pages would not display properly, justifying on the left side of the page and containing no images. In effect, there was no formatting being done. Also, it was taking about a minute or so to display. I was using FireFox. I tried IE and the results were identical. After searching the web trying to determine if this was a temporary Facebook problem, and not finding anything promising, I tried it again on FF and it worked. I left it alone until today (rebooted), and the old problem is back on both FF and IE.

I tried doing a system restore to Friday which yielded no change (then I restored back to today). I know there was a FF update during this time period, although that doesn't explain why it was working, broke, worked and now is broken again. Nor does it explain why the results are the same in IE.

I also know that there was a Java update during this time, but it doesn't explain why a system restore didn't fix the problem, nor why the problem oscillated between working and not working.

I tried deleting cookies on IE with no effect. I would prefer not deleting cookies on FF as it is my main browser and I have a ton of stuff that is maintained through them. Besides, it didn't fix the issue on IE and wouldn't explain why the problem went and came back.

Logic tells me that due to the (somewhat) intermittent nature of this situation, that it might not be caused by anything on my machine, but something going on at Facebook. However, I don't see anything on the web indicating they're experiencing a problem.

I am at my wits' end. Any ideas?

FYI: My software is up to date on XP, FF and IE.

I've since discovered several other websites have the same problem.

When I double-click on the status bar at the bottom of my IE window, I see the following errors have occurred:

Webpage error details

I don't imagine this is a browser problem. Why would both browsers suddenly produce the same error?

It's probably not a website problem, either. Seems to point to Windows. But I didn't purposely or knowingly change anything, and a system restore to the day before I first saw the problem didn't resolve the issue.
