A friend gave me a System76 laptop that does not have a CD/DVD drive. Im trying to reformat it back to factory settings. Im new to the world of Linux and I would appreciate any help in lay mans terms.

Could you better explain to me what exactly you're trying to do? Reset Ubuntu to default settings? Reformat the entire drive to install a new OS?

If you're trying to do the first, download a LiveCD ISO from Ubuntu's website, burn it to a flash drive (2-4GB) and then boot from the drive. Or, burn the LiveCD image to a disc and boot from the disc using an external USB disk drive. Simply select to install Ubuntu and install over the current partition. Be sure to back up all data first if there's anything there you care about.
