Hi all:
I am not computer savy, so please bear with me. I recently changed my ISP and after I did this I have had this re-occurring problem where the computer keeps dialing up my local Internet phone number over and over.
I have a Dell with Windows XP Home. Over on the Dell forum someone told me to do the following but I am not sure even what to do with the info:

Open Task Manager and see what's running when you first start your computer. Leave it open and wait for new entries to pop up. That may tell you something. Common culprits are MS Messenger and Java. For disabling Messenger, see http://www.theregist...nt/4/24708.html. For turning off Java update (which turned out to be my problem) see http://www.neuber.co...usched.exe.html. Good luck.

I also just purchased Norton's 2005 virus software and I use lavasoft's free
Adware finder on a regular basis. Can anyone can please help me rid my computer of this annoying problem?

Thanks!

Hi Mr Detail

Sorry for the delay in response. The forum has been very busy lately.

All dialup problems aren't related to malware but we need to make sure. So that we can see what is happening on your computer could you please follow the steps outlined here http://www.geekstogo...?showtopic=2852

At the completion of those steps please post the HijackThis log and the Report from ewido back into this topic.

If you have already fixed your machine or received help elsewhere please post back and let us know.

Thanks

Thanks Ilago, I will try and do what you sent me tonight or tommorrow.
With a 11 month old around things have gotten tougher to get done.
