What make and model laptop?
Please do the following.
OK then I need to see what the Audio Properties show as your default audio device.
Go to Start and then to Control Panel
Right click on the Sound or Audio Devices and then click on Properties
At the top of the window click on Audio and what does it say for Default Audio Device?
Click on Playback and same information?

Check volume control in windows by doing the following:
Go to Start and The Run
Type in sndvol32.exe and press Enter
Make sure Master Volume is not muted and turned up
Check Cd Player volume is not muted and turned up

Have done that, says there are corrupt files. System restore is not working says - system restore does not seem to be functioning properly on this system. The volume shadow copy service used by system restore is not working. For more information view the event log. (0x81000202)

Please Go to

1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

The issue is not the drivers but the actual exe file within the OS.
Please do the following for me.

  • Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso VEW and save it to your Desktop:
  • Double-click VEW.exe
  • Under 'Select log to query', select (as appropriate):
    • Application
    • System
  • Under 'Select type to list', select (as appropriate):
    • Error
    • Information
    • Warning
Then use the 'Date of events' or 'Number of events' as follows:

Either:
  • Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 3 in the 1 to 20 box (or any number from 1 to 20)
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

  • Click the radio button for 'Date of events'
In the From: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 07 01 2011
In the To: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 09 01 2011
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.
Please post the Output log in your next reply

Hmm may be a infection then that has turned things off or corrupted files.
Might be worth a trip to the Malware Forum to see if there is anything hidden.
I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found here. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
Add a link to this topic so that malware tech can see what steps have been taken here
