I have this computer i screw around with upgrade here and there for gaming and just informational usage.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard GA-965P-DS3. I've looked into my motherboard and I see it can handle the Intel Core2 Extreme Quad Core processer. Does this mean it can also handle the Intel i7 Quad Core 950?

The Intel Core2 Extreme Quad Core retails for like $1,800 dollars before tax I don't have that kind of money.

Thanks for your help. - Boss

Unfortunately nobody can help you because you haven't told us what processor you have now, or anything else about your machine.

The GA-965P-DS3 is Socket 775. It will not take any i7 processor at all. For that you'd need to replace the board and the processor and, most likely, the memory.

Your motherboard is equip with socket LG775 and the i7 Quad Core 950 is for sockets LG1366 so they are not compatible.

You have to stick with processor made for socket LG775 for you present Gigabyte motherboard if you are interested in upgrading to the i7 Quad Core 950 you will need to also purchase a new motherboard with the socket LG1366.

Very helpful!

Do you have any suggestions on which processer to upgrade to with the mother board I have?
