XP Error

Getting an error Explorer! when opening any folder on windows. There is no other code involved in the message and I am allowed to continue to browse my computer. Also I am not able to install SP2 on my machine and I believe that these two errors are linked in some way.

eventvwr.msc
enter

look for red X in applications and system at time of crash

No errors came up that pertain to this question. There was one that came up for installing microsoft office 2000 and was a couple of days old.
any other Ideas
