While in a chat room typing in the Send line, my keyboard stops registering the letters I type in the middle of a sentence. The Mouse cursor disappears and I have to Click it back on the line I was typing. I changed keyboards and mouse and that didn't help.

does the keyboard & mouse work outside of the chat room?
Can you confirm that you did power the system down before swapping keyboard/mouse?

Right, so you're keyboard works perfectly everytime except in chat rooms, right?

Have you tried updating your antivirus and running a complete scan of the drive?

Sorry, download it from the link below :
http://www.majorgeek...wnload3155.html

Extract the files & run hijackthis.exe. Make sure you close everything else first (especially IE windows etc) & select the 'do system scan & save log file' option.
Copy & paste the contents of the log into your post.

OK, I've reread your original post. I misinterpreted it originally cos I thought your keyboard didn't work at all now in the chat rooms. My bad.

The reason for your problem is that something is stealing the focus from the chat room page you're typing in. Do you have any other windows open in the background when this happens?

I usually have a few windows open because I don't exclusively follow the chat in the chat room. I generally have at least some mail open.

Ok, try using the chat room with all the other windows closed & see if this makes any difference.
