My XP Home system running SP3 recently developed a few systems and I am wondering if it has a virus. I first noticted the boot.ini missing mesage. This appears to be deleted regularly, although the PC functions without any obvious problems. I also noticed quite a few files/folders missing on c:. I thout I would try the use system restore to recover things, but System Restore will not create, or recover any restore points. The error message reports'system restore is unable to create a restore point, please restart and run system restore again. This has no effect, even in safe mode. I also find that my anti virus (via Virgin media) and firewall arenot always automatically turned on, whereas they always were in the past.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
regards
John
