Welcome to GTG.

Yes, the removal will most likely be a little different since each user might have other things lurking in there.

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do NOT run it yet.

Please download nailfix at http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip (for Windows XP) or http://users.pandora...y/nailfix2k.zip (for Windows 2000) Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Download CWShredder at http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd (or nailfix2k.bat if you have Windows 2000). Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

OK, I want you to check and fix ALL those O18 entries that you see there related to Logitech, EXCEPT for the first one (leave that one alone - see below):

O18 - Protocol: bw+0 - {CE351EC3-C626-4A68-A6C4-5BA9ADD2AE1D} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Uninstall these from the Add/Remove panel if listed:

WindowsSA
Winad Client
Viewpoint

Delete these if found:

C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\
c:\windows\system32\antcuhd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CMMON32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\saristar.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\d9d3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ditklyh.exe
C:\Program Files\Winad Client\
c:\windows\system32\antcuhd.exe
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here.

I'm sorry it took so long, but when i ran the Ewido program in Safe Mode, it took a very long time, and after an hour or more likely longer, a popup stating an error came up and shutdown the program. And so i continued with the other steps. The new HijackThis log is:

Also, the program viewpoint has three parts in the Add/Remove panel, and so i removed all three.

And last, CMMON32.EXE seemed to be a program required for me to connect online, and so i had to restore it.

Sorry about that. I should have asked you about that CMMON32.EXE. I initially wanted to leave it alone but saw other signs that might make this a possible trojan.

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfg.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\memstick.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msg.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\NoMedia1.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdg.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\smg.ico

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

I deleted those but i was just wondering what they were because they all seemed to be significant (they had the same icons as the different drives: MS/MS Pro (J:) and others on "My Computer", but then when i looked at the properties, the application was unknown and there was really no info on them. And also, what exactly does the system restore do and does it work on its own? because ive never used the system restore. Sorry for questioning all of what you said but i don't know this much about computers. But besides that, Thank you SO much for your help!

One more thing though, i had the windows website scan for updates, and it told me that i needed to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1; but is this related to the microsoft service pack 2, and if it does then should i download it when i have pack 2?

No problem. If you have questions, I will be glad to help you answer them as best I can ;)

What happened here? :tazz: I don't know why I asked you to remove those yesterday. There are icons that are bad there, but not in your case. You should be ok though. Those are most likely for the icons in your programs. Not really necessary, but if you do run into problems, reinstall the program and all should be well ;)

System Restore can be very useful at times. What it does is help you store your system settings in these restore points so that you can revert back to them just in case something goes wrong. All your data files will be intact if you do intend to use a restore point, but the system settings (including the registry) will not stay. They will be reverted back to what they were on the day you created the restore point. It can be useful especially if your system crashed and you can't go back into Windows. Then you choose Load last good known configuration and it will use this restore point which most likely will allow you to login to Windows again.

You have SP2 already right? I see it in your log now. I think that might be for the .NET Framework. Update if you wish, but I think it should be ok with what you have now if it still works. You should be ok as long as you get all the critical and recommend updates.

Any more questions/problems before I close this topic?

Ah i see, well those programs are in my recycle bin, so if i run into any problems, i can just restore them. But Thank you so much for all your help! My computer does seem to run a lot faster, but then i have to exit out of ewido because it slows down my computer quite a bit. But THANK YOU again, i didnt know that such a site existed before, and im still amazed at all of this. So i believe it is ok to close this topic now.

No problem. If Ewido slows down your computer, then you may uninstall it since you have Norton. Or if you like, you may do it the other way around and keep Ewido and uninstall Norton. Ewido is free for personal use.

Since this issue appears to be resolved ... this Topic has been closed. Glad we could help. :tazz:
