hello geeks!

i just was sent over here from another forum, where i got a clean bill of health as far as viruses go.

my general situation is this: i never use windows media player, and that works out well because the version installed on my computer won't open. there's something wrong with it, it generally produces a generic error like "we're sorry, windows media player has encountered an unexpected difficulty and needs to close."

the only reason this is concerning to me is that i am unable to install updates from microsoft that are related to vulnerabilities in windows media player. i'd like to have a working install of it so that i don't have to ignore related updates.

any thoughts? i've tried to uninstall/reinstall it via the add/remove programs > windows components menu, and that hasn't helped. i also tried downloading a version of it online and that didn't work either.

thanks for your time....sue
