So I run Microsoft Security Essentials, of course, along with the following

• Spybot
• SUPERAntiSpyware
• Malwarebytes

Is this too much? Can I cut down?

Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware each have background applications - is this any different to what MSE offers?

I am now annoyed because I will be wasting time for people who actually have a problem.

Also from what you said - people suddenly lose all knowledge of anti spy ware software when they click on a different forum section? I find that ludicrous.

It's just we are not allowed to. Even qualified helpers can't do that outside the Malware forum. But I think this topic is allowed in the Windows forum, since we are not doing any actual malware removal here.

And no, that not a problem, as long as you turn off automatic on-access scanner in all but one program.

Anti-spyware scanners are different from AV scanners since they have different detection types. They compliment each other.

We can suggest a malware group of programs to the OP but we cannot assist in the removal any infection.
The suggested combination varies depending on the person you ask tiroshii.
I myself use the following combination of programs

• Avast anti virus
• Malwarebytes for Malware
• SuperAntiSpyware for spyware
• Windows Firewall

Some will suggest Avira for your AV and Comodo for your Firewall.
A lot of us are also suggesting MSE AKA Microsoft Security Essentials.
All the programs I listed are free and use a lot less system resources which will slow your system.

Are you saying MSE as a substitute for ALL of them? Or combined with one or two of them?

I used to use Comodo on my XP system (for a good 3 years) until I switched to Win7, where I changed to MSE via recommendation. I have had a very favourable experience with it so far.

In combination with.
A good combination would be

MSE
Malwarebytes
SuoerAntiSpyware
Comodo Firewall...only use the firewall part and not the AV part

Sounds good. I did run Comodo for a short time recently but was told not to as Windows/MSE firewall is better?

If your experience has shown that MSE firewall works great for you then I would drop comodo then.
If MSE installs a firewall by default then for sure do not install Comodo.
Many of the moderators and admin's use MSE and have with great success.

I'll stick with MSE, Malwarebytes and Superanti for now then.
