I downloaded the service pack 2 from the microsoft website, the instructions say to copy it to a CD-R as an image file. When i try to do so, Nero says Unexspected file format. What the...? lol Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like the version designed to deploy on multiple systems. You could try this link and just install it from your hard drive.

Woot, that helped....BUT....when i run it it says initalizing settings, then it pops up with an error.

"Setup could not verify the integrity of update.exe. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer."

I usually run the windows updater whenever it comes up...but when i goto the update page now it has an error. So if what it means is that I need to update....for some reason I cant.

Check to see if the cryptographic services is actually running. Do that by going to... Control Panel -> Performance and Maintance -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Re-start the service if isn't started.

It was running so i tried it again, same error...so i restarted it, same error.

No, I think is fairly common, but not necessarily an easy fix.

Ok ill try that, but i just noticed my antivirus i use ( Norton ) the auto update is off and i cant enable it.

Method 3: Rename the Catroot2 folder
Rename the Catroot2 folder, and then try to install the program again. To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2

after i try that it says access denied.

net start cryptsvc
exit

i.e. ren C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2

Is that what you entered?

Also, you probably need the latest version of Live Update for NotonAV.

1. Turn off System Restore
2. Go "Start > Run" then type "CMD" this will load a command prompt
3. Type the following in sequence that I typed, please don't type the
stuff inside brackets!

(this will reset the Cryptographic service)
net stop cryptsvc
ren c:\windows\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc
(this will re-register some necessary dll files)
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll


Now type exit to close the command prompt

one last thing to do before you start the update is to turn the
"System Restore" back on!! or else the update will not work, you will
get the exact same message! So turn on SYSTEM RESTORE.

P.S. Are you logged in as an administrator? And, is the date set correctly?
