Laptop or Desktop?
Name brand or custom build?
If name brand what make and model?
If custom what is the make and model of motherboard
Is sound built on board or is it a sound card add on?
How much total memory is installed in your system?
What is the total capacity of your hd and the free space on it now?
Did the problem just start or was there any software or hardware upgrade done prior to the issue starting?
Have you checked the master volume control to make sure the system volume is turned up and not muted?
Are the speakers working correctly and have you verified it by plugging them in a known working system?
Are the speakers plugged into the back of the system correctly?
If speakers are powered is there power to them?

Have you tried turning up the volume in the sound settings?
If its an old laptop they got sound control on the side which overrides windows sound control.
