I am trying to access a website that was working at 9 am yesterday (Tuesday) morning but has been inaccessible since about 11 am yesterday. I need to download some appplication forms from it. When I go to the website all I get is a godaddy.com page. Does anyone know what that means? And will the email addresses associated with that website still work?

Make sure you are entering the correct URL. If it is correct and you are being redirected to GoDaddy's default page, then either the site has been deleted, site's name servers have been changed recently and servers have not caught up to the new ones yet or , if paid hosting, site's domain name or hosting was not renewed. A URL to site for others to check would be nice.

Thanks.

I tried accessing the site from a different computer with a different ISP and I still can't access it. The URL I'm entering is definitely correct. The owner of the website just registered/bought it about two months ago with a two year subscription, so there shouldn't be any renewal issues.

Is there anything I can do to determine what's going on? I tried contacting the owner (I know him), but he hasn't responded. I don't feel comfortable sharing the URL for various reasons. I've tried doing a whois, ping, and DNS lookup and I'm not seeing anything that looks odd. But then, I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for either.

I don't know why they would've taken down their website (if that's what they did). It's for the business they're starting. They just updated the website a few days ago. Weird.

Since you can't post the URL, the rest would be just conjecture. Maybe try this utility and see what comes up. If you saw the WhoIs information and it was correct for the URL or IP used, then owner may not have finished setting up his site or has made changes which messed it up. The servers are set to produce the index file without it being entered. Just the proper domain name is all that is needed. The "/" should always be added after the ".com" part to eliminate another call.

If the page is redirecting to the godaddy main page, then there is no need to ping it, do a dns lookup, or a whois, as all of them are obviously working properly.

Because you are not willing to share the URL, we cannot directly help because we can't actually see what is going on. In addition, it makes me think that the website in question may be one to break terms of service of a hosting provider (IE: no one would want to share a porn website link, so it might have been that). I'm not saying for sure that it is bad, but is it possible that they got their hosting revoked due to breaking terms of service?

Besides that, all it sounds like is either GoDaddy maintenance (doubtful, as they have backup systems to run the websites who's primary servers are down for maintenance), domain expiration, they took their website down, or their nameservers are incorrect (the nameservers in the whois query should either be pointed to godaddy or to a different domain (other host) depending on if they only bought their domain from godaddy, or if they also bought hosting from them).

The person took down the website and is using a different domain name. I suspect the domain they had been using was too similar to another website's name or too confusing to remember. I don't know if they actually know what they're doing. They tell people what the website URL is and then change it without telling anyone. Kind of stupid for a business that's just starting.
