OK I have been given a slap around the head for forgetting one nice part of the recovery console

Flash up the recovery console again - select repair my computer
From the menu select system restore - pick a point at least one day prior to the boot failure
If need be we can remove the malware from the restored system

that was my first instinct, but after multiple attempts the restore point wasn't takeing. Also, there was only one option for a restore point and it was either the day of, or the day just before hitman pro killed it. I think some windows update things happened around that time, and that is when the restore point was created, but there were no older options.

OK now this is intriguing there is no sign of the two files being copied to the correct location

Lets try that once again but using the files you copied to the root drive

Start OTLPE as you did previously from CD
Copy the attached Fix.txt to a USB
[attachment=49179:fix.txt]
  • Insert your USB drive with fix.txt on it
  • Start OTLPE
  • Drag and drop fix.txt into the Custom scans and fixes box
  • If you cannot drag and drop for some reason. Then press the Run Fix button and a dialogue box will pop up asking for the location - select the file on your USB drive
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done to normal mode if possible
  • Then post a new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )

I am wondering now if Hitmanpro has a registry entry at the boot mode to remove winlogon. Hence everytime we try to reboot it removes the files we have just placed there

If you could run the latest fix - then if the files get removed again at least I will have a rough idea of where to search for the hitmanpro nightmare key

Just been having a chat with OT and there is a possible solution

Please download this new fix for OTLPE

Start OTLPE as you did previously from CD
Copy the attached Fix.txt to a USB
[attachment=49208:fix.txt]

I must admit I am not a great fan of Hitmanpro

But neither myself nor OT could see anything else

Sorry that we were unable to resolve the issue successfully
