lsass.exe error prevents me from logging on

Hi, got the same probl as axon9 from few months old topic. He got assistance from a guy named Salagubang, and i followed the steps as written by him.

So anyway, i got the OTL log file, in case u might wanna take a look at it. But the problem is still there.

And i dont have a XP backup cd, the backup was built in the notebook (aspire9300), but for some reason it didnt work.

Save this in the USB drive as a text file so you can have access to it while in OTLPE.

Restart the computer back to the OTLPE CD.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start. Change the following settings
    • Change Drivers to All
    • Change Standard Registry to All
    • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

I don't see a problem in those scans, other than the svchost.exe file lacks of its signature, but in the Servicepack's folder, not in the system folder.

Can you explain in details how does the boot process undergoes and if there is a Blue Screen involved in the process?

well, it behaves as usual windows XP startup, including the startup screen with Win XP logo and the blue loading bar, but then, when there should be user login screen appearing, instead the screen goes black only w mouse cursor visible and error message appears:

lsass.exe - system error

end point format not valid


have no clue what that means. same thing happening when i try to go to safe mode. :D

Lets try this fix, as it seems like a security issue.

While in Reatogo, browse to the C:\ folder. Right click on the Boot.ini file and select edit. Remove what I have indicate in Red in this line and save the file:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /usepmtimer


Nothing else, nothing more. The boot.ini file rests on an empty line. Do not remove that line.

Save this in the USB drive:

  • Boot to the OTLPE CD
  • Please double-click OTLPE.exe to run it as you did before.
  • Copy the lines in the quote below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "SystemPages"=31000

  • Return to OTLPE, right click in the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Run Fix button.
  • A report will be produced and saved in the C:\_OTL\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date_Time.log. Open that report and post its contents in a reply.

Attempt to boot in Normal mode . Let me know the outcome.

  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
  • Copy this file to your USB drive.
  • Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply also.
