I went to update Internet explorer 8 to version 9 and the update failed because of windows update error 490 which I can't fix and to make it worst now Internet explorer won't work it doesn't even show up in control panel but it is still on my desktop but won't open please help I don't know what to do.

Please be aware Internet Explorer 9 is meant for Windows Vista and upwards. Are you using 32 or 64-bit operating system, you could download full off-line installer and try installing over the existing one to check if it fixes problem
