is there a free firewall available?

Windows 7 includes a decent built in Firewall. If you go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Then click Turn Windows Firewall On or Off (on the left hand side), you can check to make sure it is switched on.

If I can get my other laptop to turn on tomorrow I will log on and try to contact you

i am running the otl scan on other computer-took 20 min to turn on and load the site-i will start a fresh thread-you can look for me if u like-tried last night but site was down-thanks again!
