Previous to Windows 7, I used Scansoft Paperport to scan photos on my old visioneer scanner and they were saved as .max files. That software is not compatible with Windows 7. I bought a new scanner and can find no economical program compatible with Windows 7 to help me convert these files to .jpg. Anyone know of a solution other than buying a new high-priced scansoft paperport for just that purpose?

That's the problem when you save scanned documents in a proprietary scanning format.

See if there is a trial version of Paperport that works on Windows 7.
Open your existing max files with it, then choose File >> Save As and choose a more popular format.
