Windows XP loads dell screen then black screen with a siingle characte

Okay so my computer loads my dell screen but then it goes black with a blinking underscore and won't leave that. I have no idea how to fix this. Help please

Is the hard drive's model number listed in the CMOS/BIOS Setup?
