Today, after uninstalling programs that my computer could really do without (Cyberlink, Network Magic, Windows Live Essentials, Adobe products, Microsoft Silverlight), I found that my flash drive was not connecting at all. Everything else was working, and I began to get worried so I did a system restore. The system restore failed because there were automatic updates that stopped it. I am unable to do system restore, and now none of my USB ports are working.

I didn't do anything that would have removed the drivers, and there is nothing in system restore about it, I'm getting scared because I don't know if this is a Windows 7 bug and will be ok in the morning or if I have to do an advanced fix. All drivers are up to date, they just won't respond.

I would uninstall the USB controllers and reboot, then hope new hardware is detected and new drivers are loaded. Otherwise, you might be looking at a fresh install of Windows.
