Hi Quanta
It all depends on what you feel comfortable with, ususally with XP it is slightly easier to find troubleshooting info, drivers, updates, etc. but Linux can still be fun to play with. I myself like Mandrake, but behind the scenes you still have to learn different terminology that has been created by the ultimate techies. Some people believe that speaking about XP is confusing, try telling someone that I have to gunzip my tarball to add a config sheet to my kernel to allow me to pipe some commands....

Hmm. . .well, from all OSs that you have seen or used, which do you find easiest to use and most user friendly? See, this is a family computer and some of us here (not me) have no idea how a computer works, so I find that getting an easy to use OS would be best. Plus, Windows is a big money eater.

Right now, for non computer users, the easiest OS to use is XP. Couple of reasons, first, somehow with the cartoony icons, they pick up the basics faster, easier to repair if they happen to accidently rip something out (System Restore) the OS will actually yell at you if you are trying to rip out system files.

Okay. I was just making sure. I talked to my science teacher the other day who actually works with making computers and said that Linspire was best. Thanks for the feedback.
