Hello! I'm new to this forum and hope I am posting this in the right spot. My computer usually runs pretty fast, but here in the past few weeks, it's been running horrendously slow. I haven't installed any new programs or anything that I am aware, and most all of the sites I go to are secure.

If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the HiJackThis log.

While still on this topic, my firewall hasn't been blocking anything. It's Kerio personal firewall, anyone have a good recommendation?

Thanks in advanced for both answers, I really appreciate you guys for helping on here. :tazz:

Hello there, and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Kat, and I will be helping you solve your computer issues! :tazz:

First of all, what do you mean that Kerio is "not blocking anything??" You have no viruses, or any Malware at all in your HijackThis log. Kerio is actually one of the better firewalls. I use it myself, as does many of our Staff Members here.

Before we tackle the problems on your machine, I need you to do something very important. It is not a good idea to run HijackThis from a "temp" location. Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

If you are concerned about possible "hidden" Malware problems, there are a couple of scans and logs I'd like you to do for me, and I'll be happy to check them out!

1. Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
2. *Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

3. Please post a reply here to answer my Kerio question, and also please post me a copy of the following:

new HJT log
Ewido log
Silent Runners log

Well, with the Kerio thing, I keep getting all of these spyware and things that my other catches identify, but Kerio doesn't even seem to do anything, lol. All that I'm positive it's done is tell me when my dial-up number has changed. Is there some sort of way to fix it? I bought the program because one of my friends suggested I get it, but I have no earthly idea the settings in it.

The site you told me about, http://www.ewido.net/en/download/, would not let me get in. It had an error when trying to get into the page.

Here is the log for #2:

hello again!

First of all, NO firewall blocks all spyware, etc. Firewalls block you from certain things, Anti-virus programs from others, and programs like Spywareblaster and IESpyads can help block Spyware.

Couple of questions...have you "fixed" or removed anything using HijackThis? There should be a LOT more entries in your log, such as ones beginning with 02, 03 and 04...and probably some 016's as well. Are you getting the log from Normal or Safe Mode?? If it is in Safe Mode, please scan for and post a log from Normal Mode.

Since the Ewido woudln't work, please run at least one or two of the following, and post the results here.

Housecall<<<Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.
Panda ActiveScan<<<Accept default settings, save and post the log
RAV online scan<<<Add a check by 'Autoclean', leave everything else as is.
eTrust Antivirus Web Scan<<<'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful
Bitdefender ScanOnline<<<Place a check by everything under 'Scan Options'.
Command on Demand

Also run an online trojan scan here: http://www.trojanscan.com/
Reboot when finished.

Post me the results of all scans, as well as another HJT log when finished!

Hello again! You have a clean machine. You honestly don't even have any "resource hog" programs running that we can disable. I'm going to move your thread over to the WindowsXP forum. I'm sure the guys over there will be able to help you get your system back up to speed!

Howdy:

Now that ~kat~ has helped clean out your system, your speed should be noticably improved.. :tazz:

As for the firewall, both Zone Alarm and Sygate have very good freebies available for install for the home user..

I use Sygate and really like it.. Used Zone Alarm for awhile but it seemed to have problems with SP2 (they may be fixed by now) so I uninstalled it and went to Sygate!!
