I need some help with this..... I have read for days many of the replys and suggestions to others...... I figured I would be able to resolve this, however, this is not the case.......

I have run cleanup, ad-aware se, cwshredder, spybot, pandasoftware... et cetera....

I attempt to run Hijack, the log is listed below.... however, attempts to delete elements are not possible, for whatever reason......

Have attempted Killbox as well, but it will not delete the param32.dll, no matter what I've tried.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated.

P4 running ME

Hi Michael and welcome to GTG.

Please do not post your email address here. It's a public forum and spammers can leech your email address easily.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/Cleanup.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Download CWShredder at http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.specialgo...info/ad/ad0413/

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\PROGRAM FILES\TOOLBAR\
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\param32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\System32\popup_bl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SEARCHDLL.DLL

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Let's try this again:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Right click on this link and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DSXR] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with red circle with a white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot now, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\param32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\guninst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\popup_bl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SEARCHDLL.DLL

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Thank you for your assistance...... I just wish I felt I was helping some.... feeling very lost and confused about all of this..... anyways.... I have done what you asked.... not sure what, if anything, has changed. But am up to doing what is necessary...... I just don't even understand why someone would create an animal like this.... what a loss of time.

Here is the latest HijackThis log.

No problem.

This one doesn't seem to go away easily. I want you to upload this file (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE) to this site and submit it. Wait for the analysis and copy that report here.

Let's try this also:

Download AboutBuster http://www.greyknigh...AboutBuster.zip and unzip it to a folder on your the Desktop. Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Update and then Check For Update to see if there are any updates. Click Start->OK and then follow the rest of the prompts to scan (choose Yes/OK for all). It will ask you if you want a second scan, choose Yes. Save the log file and post it here.

:tazz: Mr. GreyKnight........ I do believe, after repeating and repeating and again repeating processes, that we have gotten the beast...... could it be true?

I will post below the latest HiJackThis log...... I only say that I think we've gotten it, because I was able to finally Killbox that param32.dll file..... and the IE jumping up every 4 minutes has stopped.....

So, please take a look at this, let me know what you think I should do to keep it from happening again...... It is all suspect to me, I have two computers, this one which is now running without problems, and another which seems to have gotten even a worse virus and has had a slow death..... I think it might be the AOL GOLD virus..... I raise this issue because it was back the first part of May when I was having some problems with AOL.... and used their over the phone service..... and it was right after that I received files from them, one a survey... the other an upgrade... now how weird is that? I think it was the upgrade on my other computer that started that one......

Anyways, here we go with this latest HiJackThis Log.....

It's still there. That trojan is giving us some problems. See if the online scan can find anything else that might be doing this:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Right click on this link and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DSXR] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DSXR.EXE

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

YOU WERE SO RIGHT!

How this sobered me up from my celebrations........ You hit it right on. In fact, when I ran Panda, it came up with 105 infected files...... saying it COULD NOT get rid of or disinfect all but 4 of them. So I post that log for your info and thoughts/suggestions.

Also, I was able to delete via the HiJackThis scan, that DSXR file.

Similarly, using the KillBox, I believe I was able to delete the DSXR file....

Here is the Panda Active Scan log:

I wonder why KillBox didn't delete that file though? It should do a better job than HJT. But thanks for that info, good to know :tazz:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Delete these files. If any file is giving you problems deleting, try using KillBox or the delete feature in HJT. For folders, you should be able to delete them, if not try safe mode:

C:\Program Files\Web Offer
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\FLEOK
C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Web Search Tools
C:\WINDOWS\sys???.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\saieau.dat
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\saie_kyf.dat
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P Networking v123.cpl
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ico2c.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\jgdsync.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\isiramp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\itset32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\winupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\winupdt.bin

C:\Program Files\CxtPls\
C:\Program Files\Web Offer\
C:\myPcsearch.exe
C:\backups\

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, go to Edit->Find and look for Hotoffers and delete all instances of it found (hit F3 to do a Find Next to make sure no more exists). Do the same thing for Altnet, MediaTickets, PowerScan and SaveNow.

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Your log is clean.

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double-click on the System icon. On the Performance tab click File System. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check 'Disable System Restore'. Click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
