Outlook 2010: Can you hide these items somehow?

I'm trying to find a way to hide the items in the photo below on my Outlook 2010 software. Any ideas?

I want to use some of these items, but they also show up on the bottom bar in Outlook so I'll still have access to them.

According to this article you should be able to adjust the contents of the navigation pane (which is what that part of outlook is called) via the "layout" group in the "view" tab.
Give it a try, and should you encounter issues while tryingto adjust it, or have aditional questions, you know where to find us
