IE 8 favorites tab problem

This evening when I turned my computer on, my drop down FAVORITES list was divided in half; the top half of the list has changed to a dull gray color and the bottom half of the list is the normal color (unchanged). When I hover my curser over the dull gray FAVORITES list, a little black ghost buster circle appears (the dull gray part of the list still works) but the color change and icon are concerning. Can you tell me how to fix this? Thank you. I am using Internet Explorer 8.
