OK lets try to resolve those errors ADVWindowsClientSystemTray.exe - Entry Point Not Found, that is the Amazon unbox utility and a reinstall may fix that. You can download a copy here .NET Framework Initialization Error an update to dotnet 3.5 should fix that available hereFiles that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. You appear to have SP3, so a possible option is to do one of the followingDownload a fresh copy of SP3 to your desktop from here Try to install SP3 If it fails to install then we will need to uninstall SP3 and then reinstall. I can walk you through that stage if you wish
Up and running as before--work on above issues now?

NET Framework Initialization Error an update to dotnet 3.5 should fix that available here
I get this error message:
Ngen.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll
OK
Then a popup that says
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. These requirements must be met before you can install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
"You must install Windows Installer 3.1 to complete installation. Microsoft Net Framework 3.5 requires that Windows Installer 3.1 be installed prior to the installation."

What is the E-Mail programme and what errors does it give ?
I note I never answered this...it is Incredimail (seemed like a good idea at the time ). I don't use it much, but I need to cull out some emails before I trash it...
I get an "Incredimail encountered a problem and needs to close." Crash details are:
Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION (C0000005) - on reading from 00000000
Faulting Offset: 000A1C7E
Module: mshtml.dll

Just been having my munchies
OK download windows installer 3.1 from here, once installed then retry dotnet
Hope they were good munchies!
Downloaded the installer and ran it. Got this error message:
KB893803v2 Setup Error
Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this sytem is newer than the update you are applying.
There is no need to install this update.
OK
I'm pretty sure I got to this point once before, and started banging my head against the wall and then started using the now purloined laptop...sigh.

ADVWindowsClientSystemTray.exe - Entry Point Not Found, that is the Amazon unbox utility and a reinstall may fix that. You can download a copy here
Reinstalled the Unbox utility, it seemed to work, but upon restart I got the same error message as previously.
Uninstalled the utility, which seemed to work, but again, upon restart, I got the same error message as previously.
I think perhaps it's not working...

We will now try an install of SP3 and that will write new files to the system
If it should fail due to you allready having SP3, we will then uninstall back to SP2 and then go from there

.NET Framework Initialization Error
c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscorwks.dll could not be loaded
This time, I only got the above error, the unbox and the unrecognized file error messages did not appear.
Run Windows Update in the regular Windows menu (Start Menu, All Programs?)
