Help! Sometime between July 27 and July 29 I got infected with the fake Windows Security Center malware and I cannot get it off my computer. I had it a couple of months ago, but was able to remove it (I think) by running iExplore to stop the process, then running Malware Bytes to remove the program. But this time I have not been able to get rid of this insidious program. I have tried suggestions from numerous forums over the past three days but nothing has worked. And the worst thing is that it has disabled Microsoft Essentials so I have no virus protection running.
Running various registry cleaners hasn’t affected it. Running iExplore in Safe Mode followed by Malware Bytes didn’t work – that is, iExplore and MBAM run but report no malware found. Running exeHelper in Safe followed by Malware Bytes didn’t work. Running xp_antivirus_fix.reg in Safe followed by Malware Bytes didn’t work.
I had some trouble downloading OTL, but I have it now and I can run it this evening. In the meantime, does anyone else have any ideas? I need to have this laptop running for a seminar on Friday!!

Yahoo! I think I am fixed....... but I'm not exactly sure what fixed me. After running ESET I noticed that it did pick up a trojan (I don't see the name of the trojan in the log). But I still had the Windows Security warning in the task bar and Microsoft Security Essentials still wouldn't run. But then I thought. What if the trojan corrupted Security Essentials. So I reloaded Security Essentials and rebooted. Voila! Everything appears to be working correctly. I say "appears" because I am not 100% certain that something evil still isn't lurking deep in the guts of the computer. But the computer worked correctly all through the weekend.

So many thanks for your help and ideas. FYI, here are the logs from the last round of testing.
