Hi everyone, I am having a problem with my computer not connecting to the Internet all of a sudden.
I have windows vista.
This is what I have done so far
I have checked the Ethernet cable and that works just fine.
My router is working fine as I cam connect via my iPhone.
I have switched off my computer and router and switched it all back on, not helped at all.
When I have unplugged the ethernet cable I have no connection whatsoever nut when plugged in I have local access. I sometimes have full Internet access until I try to go onto the Internet.
I have tried to connect to my router wirelessly nut my computer cannot find any other router, which I find a little strange as there are a lot of other routers on neighbouring houses!
I have run a scan for virus's and there are none.
I have uninstalled everything that I have installed via the Internet for the past month (luckily nothing important)
I have searched other forums but they don't help me much as I am not computer literate :-) so please advise me in lamens terms guys thanks :-)

Hello Nikkii and welcome to Geeks To Go

First off I would like you to reset your web browser to default settings. For Internet Explorer open the program as normal and then do the following

  • Goto Tools - Internet Options
  • Goto the advanced tab and click on reset
  • Apply all changes and restart Internet Explorer
After completing this please restart Internet Explorer. If this has not fixed the problem follow the guidlines below

  • Goto Start - All Programs - Accessories - notepad
  • Copy the code in the quote box below and save as reset.bat
  • Right click the file and select Run as administrator (For Windows Vista and Windows 7 only, for Windows XP just run normally)
  • Restart computer to finish the procedure.

@echo off

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
netsh firewall reset
shutdown -r -t 0

Please note your computer will automatically restart after running this file so please save all work

If all of the above fail I would like you to get an in depth malware check done by our malware team. Please read the following topic here and then post your problem here.

Please post your problem there where our experts will be more than happy to assist you :)

If your problem is still occuring after all of the above have been complete please report back.

Regards

Hi everyone,
I have had the same problem (almost) about connecting to the internet.
I have two PowerSpec desktop computers on my desk, both running Windows 7 pro, and almost identical specs.
I use them both every night after I come home from work.
The one on the left is the one I use with MS Outlook and Office. Otherwise, I use them the same.
Both were working fine this morning when I left for work.

The one on the left stopped receiving email about 9 AM this morning.
I also cannot connect to the internet with it.
Both computers are connected to the same Linksys 8 port switch which is connected to my router.
The computer on the right still connects to the internet fine.
I rebooted the computer on the left. Still no good.
I swapped ethernet cables between the two. Still the computer on the right has internet access but the left one doesn't.
I unplugged the enet cable from the one on the right and plugged it into the one on the left. Still no good.
I restarted in safe mode with networking
I executed the commands from command window as recommended by someone helping a previous problem reported.
Here are the results (can anyone help?):
