Newbie -- OTL safe? Trying to get rid of about:blank

Hi all

I just signed up and read that I need to download OTL to get started, but the update on it was back in 2010 so I questioned whether to download or not. I'm just being cautious about downloading any new malware, etc.

*The reason for being here is the need to delete about:blank from my computer, and your help would be appreciated.
I will await your comments, directions, Thank you!
