Hey,

For the last week or so my PC has sporadically been crashing. I noticed it happens most commonly when closing videos on youtube, or clicking new links on youtube.

I had a problem a while back with my Gfx card overheating so I put a new fan in there. It seemed to fix the problem but ever since i've had graphic glitches when running say firefox whilst in game on world of warcraft. Please note, this is just a little background and i'm only mentioning it as it's a pc only 1 year old.

Now, I've been trying to fix it myself for the last week, reading any topics i can find. When i got bluescreens, i wrote down what it said;

0X00000001, 0XB8398925, 0XB175D8B8, 0X00000000

0X00000001, 0XB83D8925, 0XB28388B8, 0X00000000



Note: the only thing in yellow on my device manager is 'SM Bus Control'.

I've spent the week updating BIOS, Gfx drives, motherboard drivers, and anything i can think of, no luck though.

Please help me, I'd be really greatful, but please be as basic as possible, as i have no technical knowledge whatsoever.

SM Bus Control is part of your motherboard chipset driver which is located HERE under the Chipset area.
You will need to open the OS dropdown menu and click on your OS for the drivers list to show up.

Hey, thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I went to that site myself, and downloaded both options under the chipset tab, but no luck, it's still yellow in device manager. I'm on windows Xp if that helps.

Lets get a better look at what is going on.

Please Go to

1: START and the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter


To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

The error code itself indicates a issue with the OS.

Go Start and then to Run ("Start Search" in Vista),
Type in: sfc /scannow
Click OK (Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) finds any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc does not find any errors in Windows XP, it will simply quit, without any message.
In Vista you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".

For Vista users ONLY: Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. You'll see CBS.log file.
Usually, it's pretty big file, so upload it to Flyupload, and post download link.


If you don't have Windows CD....
This applies mostly to Windows XP, since Vista rarely requires use of its DVD while running "sfc"
Note This method will not necessarily work as well, as when using Windows CD, because not always ALL system files are backed up on your hard drive. Also, backed up files may be corrupted as well.

Go Start and then Run
type in regedit and click OK


Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

You will see various entries Values on the right hand side.

The one we want is called: SourcePath

It probably has an entry pointing to your CD-ROM drive, usually D and that is why it is asking for the XP CD.
All we need to do is change it to: C:
Now, double click the SourcePatch setting and a new box will pop up.
Change the drive letter from your CD drive to your root drive, usually C:
Close Registry Editor.

Now restart your computer and try sfc /scannow again!

...of what you said. Now you say there will be things to choose from on the right, however i only have Name:Default Type:Reg_SZ Data:)Value Not set)

OK that driver should have worked so lets see if we can get a more detailed look at the motherboard.


Download and install Free Everest Home Edition
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Click the + by computer, click on Sensor. Get a screenshot and post it so I can check your temps and voltages...


DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

When i downloaded and installed that programme i got a bluescreen. - 0XC00000005, 0XACAEBAD8, 0XB1304948.

Generally, use the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist above to troubleshoot this problem. A specific problem is known to exist with Win XP SP2 and Server 2003 in combination with certain antivirus programs, firewalls, and similar software; see the article linked below for details and current status of a fix from Microsoft.

Are you running XP with only SP2?
What anti virus program are you running?
Any other malware or spyware programs?

I'm using service pack 2 apparently, with Microsoft security essentials as my antivirus, and malwarebytes.
